Marlane and Scott Balcomb are the proud owners of ABC Kitchen and have been catering for over 20 years. They previously owned the iconic Ashland Bakery Cafe from 1998-2007. At “ABC”, they created new and exciting menus for locals and tourists alike which led to customers requesting catering for weddings, conferences and events. ABC Kitchen is the culmination of their many years of working together in the food and beverage industry.
Marlane graduated from San Francisco State University and immediately went to work for the San Francisco Hilton Hotel as a Catering Manager. The Hilton Hotel could seat up to 3000 guests for any type of banquet. “This was definitely a turning point in my life. The moment I started working, I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Catering is so exciting and has fulfilled my life’s purpose to help people with their visions and dreams.” Marlane has opened four major hotel chains in the Bay Area as a Catering Director. She is always on-site for events, from beginning to end and enjoys working with clients to plan exceptional and exquisite events.
Scott graduated from Western Culinary Institute with honors in 1985. He was hired as a Chef at the Eagle Crest Resort in 1986 and then became the Chef at the Riverhouse in Bend. In 1991, he started working at the Red Lion Hotel in Portland and went on to assist with opening and re-vamping other Red Lion Hotel kitchens. He was the chef at Southern Oregon University in 1997 and became the proud chef and owner of Ashland Bakery Café in 1998. Scott is an incredible Chef with delicious and inventive menus. His greatest asset, says Marlane is “his aim-to-please attitude”.
